JOURNAL #3 APOCALYPSE NOW

1. I feel like the conflict faced by the main character is mostly him vs himself. The main character is self destructive and seems to only know one thing and that's war. He is also conflicted in his mission in having to kill general Kurtz he is reading his dossier on the boat ride and is wondering why the military would want this man dead, there is an admiration there that he is too afraid to admit because of how scary that would be to be like Kurtz and let go of his inhibitions.

2. The films sound is amazing both the soundtrack which would be the songs and the score of the film which is an incredible and dark synth sound throughout. But the sounds of the jungle that surrounds them on the boat. The best part of the movie where these sounds meet and form this strange and dark melodic sound is when they are at the bridge at night it sounds like a dark carnival and there is men dying everywhere the sounds of war and rebuilding of the bridge it really sets a surreal tone for the finale of the film.

3.  The shots in the film the overall cinematography adds this beauty to this world of war and chaos that our characters are thrust into. It helps add a sense of aesthetic love in a setting that is covered in this chaotic cloud of war. This contributes to the story because that's the whole point of the film in my opinion the war is normally seen as a black and white thing we are right our enemies are wrong there is no middle ground. That is not the case though as many people involved in war are just fighting because they have to there is a sense of trouble and you don't know who to root for and it is further diluted because the main character is kind of a rouge he isn't the type of guy anyone can relate to but yet you do. The setting the jungle the war all of these things are what add to that this conflicted is captured perfectly young men risking their lives in this beautiful setting where there is only war.

My Perfect Movie

The ideal film to me is a horror film that is directed by David Robert Mitchell the director of indie horror film "it follows". Written in conjunction with the director and horror film legend Wes Craven. With music from disaterpeace who scored David Robert Mitchell's previous film "it follows" and is known for an electronic style of music with a more classical sense of darkness with implicit tones in the music it never starts dark it starts almost whimsical and lulls you in to a false sense of comfort then the darkness comes as it always does. My cast and crew would have to be the same as the film of it follows I really liked the whole feel of the film very classic style eerie horror so I'd give most artistic freedom to the writers and director and Wes Craven was a legendary horror director so his vision would  no doubt be iconic in the hands of David Robert Mitchell.

The films plot would have to be a sort of amalgam of ideas between the two directors I would have to guess the monster of the film would be mostly human fear the way we perceive the world around us much like their previous works the true villain in both Wes Cravens and David Robert Mitchell films is that the fear of the "monster" is what gets to us the most so my ideal monster that would fit their M.O would have to be Hubris and lack there of such as the young unsuspecting actors in the films would be over confident and some of them would lack it all together and their own fears would manifest in them and terrorize them throughout the film.

The cast would have to be mostly younger actors maybe around college age a few names would be Jane Levy as the typical heroine in horror films and her love interest would be a young Brad Pitt since I've always respected him as an actor and would love to see how he'd fair in a horror film.

The plot and central theme will all revolve around confidence and how in college most people tend to either have too much or not enough nobody has a perfect harmony of both. Unbeknownst to the main characters is their Hubris has awoken a demon who preys on their fears and their doubts and forces them to confront them or die and even that won't fully sate the demons blood lust because it would still want more so it would continually force the characters to face their fears until they would break and offer their souls to him. And that would go on until most of the cast has died off and been forced into their fears. Until the final act where the kids all realize that they cannot really beat this demon and the only way to get rid of him would be for one of them to sacrifice themselves willingly so that the demon would be sated for now.
